Yeah, so you'd think that I'd be capable of getting at least one non-weather-whining post up during my time off, huh? No so much. But here are some snaps of our first trip to the Sno-Park just across the Oregon border. Michael and Darcy went again last weekend with a friend and his son. They had another great day. Darcy is an adventurous one -- she watched all these older kids sledding over a snow jump and insisted that she wanted to try it. They did, she loved it, and insisted that they do it again, faster. Michael reports that they had some serious airspace on a few jumps, but was on the sled with her, so there are no photos.

It's a long, windy road to get there, but once we hit the snow line, we were driving through trees like these, so who cared? It was gorgeous! Darcy slept through it all. Plenty of snow for play!

Darcy didn't really love being almost hip-deep in snow at the top of the sled run.

But she had fun sledding! There had been a week of steady snow accumulation and we were there too early in the weekend for trails to have gotten packed for good sledding, so they only made it about a third of the way down the hill before having to walk back up.

One of the best features of this Sno-Park (don't entirely understand them, but this one is in the National Forest and requires a $4 parking permit -- but I don't quite know if it's solely a NF enterprise?) is the warming hut. You can see it at the bottom of the hill in the previous picture. It's a simple log cabin with big shutters opening out for a view of the sledding hill and a roaring wood stove. It's BYO wood and people bring pots and kettles (as you can see) to heat up tea and hot chocolate (that's what we brought). It was very fun.

Beautiful pictures. Love that warming hut.
I love a warming hut! And I love a sledding girl!! (Did Orville and Wilbur have a sled?)
My guess is that Orv and Wil did have sleds. They lived in Dayton -- I'm sure they played in the snow. Probably built their own sleds out of milk bottle tops and worn-out shoestrings.
The warming hut was GREAT! J, anytime you all wanted to come visit, we'd take you to the Sno-Park!
